kellogg’s syndrome

this is getting out of hand. our country’s view on marijuana and alcohol,  and the double standard is infuriating.

(i want to preface this with the fact that i thought michael phelps was one of the most over-rated and douchiest celebrity/sports stars we had in our culture… with his overstated love for lil wayne, ed hardy shirts and the fact all he knows how to do is swim fast results in his fame and wealth bothered the hell out of me, this in contrast to something progressive in our society like winning nobel prizes or discovering a way to cold fuse or dispose of nuclear waste… )

with that said…

this whole michael phelps/bong issue is infuriating….yes i get it, you shouldn’t get caught doing illegal things if you want to be a spokesperson or a role model.

but isn’t it strange how phelps smokes a little weed, in a controlled environment and loses his endorsement deal…

but four years earlier at the age of 19, he blows a stop sign near a college campus while DRUNK, recieves a DUI.

and again did this all while under the age of 21…

but somehow kellogg’s doesn’t care if their spokesman gets drunk (underage) and drives, blowing stop signs, endangering the “future of our country”

a man like that needs his corn flakes. or frosted flakes… i mean

but if he smokes weed and passes out to an episode of planet earth with a bag of cheetos on his lap….

that man is a poor example… and a shame.

where the hell is this company’s morals?

not just their morals, but the country’s… really

yes, i understand the use of marijuana is illegal, federally.

but so is drinking and driving last time i checked… and doing so under the age of 21…

it seems like people who smoke weed are looked down upon as “criminals” or the type of people who don’t mind breaking the law for a little fun.

but the guy who throws down 12 jager bombs and can still drive home without hitting a tree is a hero…

personally i have yet to hear of any 12 step programs for potheads…

yea i know “because its a gateway drug and all the people are in narcotics anonymous”

my responce to that is: “we should go down to NA meetings and ask how many of them wash down their vicodin with whiskey… or pair a nice martini with their 8-ball? in addition, I could probably find you a good 13 studies and white papers that say marijuana  shouldn’t be classified as a gateway drug.”

the stigma involved with marijuana is sad…

especially when 13 states have introduced or enforced some sort of decriminalized marijuana initiative….. “the green states illustrate this.”

while we all enjoy the fruits of marijuana (or those who enjoyed it)…

the thoughts and accomplishments of carl sagan, sigmund freud, steve jobs, picasso, wilde, obama, william s. burroughs, richard feynman, salvador dali, rudyard kipling, norman mailer, pretty much every writer, talented filmaker, actor, and musician other than ian anderson, so on and so on….

im sure there are plenty of counter arguments for my statement…but try asking yourself these two questions?

1. how many great ideas do you come up with when you’re drunk?

2. really how different is smoking a joint vs. drinking a (insert favorite mixed drink here) ?
